BackMitra(TM) Teacher Training

Friday June 8th 2018 - Sunday June 10th 2018

Learn the art of teaching with the BackMitra...

Whether you teach yoga, Pilates or movement, are a body worker or health practitioner, the BackMitra has something to offer you and your clients. A brilliant device designed to release stress and strain in the spine, the BackMitra is simple to use and highly effective.

This 12-hour Foundations Training is based on yoga therapy principles. Founded in the teachings of Restorative Alignment and influenced by Vijnana Yoga, Yoga Therapy and MELT, you will learn fundamental spinal anatomy and function, discover the layers of the back body, and be trained in the safe, effective and creative use of BackMitra.

Inspired by the 800-hour Vijnana training completed with Gioia Irwin, practices to promote Tensegrity and cultivate a quiet back body will be explored. As a certified Hand & Foot MELT instructor, the new science of understanding the core will be reviewed; health and hydration of the connective tissue matrix will be discussed.

Having completed an 800 hour Yoga Therapy Training with Leila Stuart, therapeutic sequences and breathing inquiries will be woven in the course content. Enlivening a connection to the mid-line, the BackMitra provides boundless creativity opportunities to teach not only about the spine and the breath, but also about healing the heart.

Taught by Sharon Abbondanza C-IAYT, you can expect an engaging environment conducive to deep inquiry, healing and transformation.

What teachers are saying...
"The training exceeded my expectation; there was more information about the function of the spine and therapeutic ways to work with students. The experiential anatomy was valuable; the manual was a great addition as it has all the photos, breath information and great pictures. I am very confident and excited to share the BackMitra work with my students in class situations and private situations." Sandy D.

"Thank-you for your lovely teaching, and your energy and presence. It is a beautiful thing! Especially, thank you for making me smart about anatomy (whereas before I felt dumb because it was not sticking)." Susan

"Sharon was a wonderful, warm, radiant presence throughout the course! I really enjoyed her wise demeanor and her ability to hold the classroom together. I felt she connected with each of us individually and made each of us feel heard and important." Marie St.

"You are an absolutely beautiful teacher - your pace, your eloquent way of communicating, your knowledge - combined with your tangible passion for yoga made it a truly enjoyable, sacred experience." Nevah W
