This training is hosted by Andrea Peloso and facilitated by Joann Lyons.

JoAnn Lyons found yoga in the very early 70's and began teaching yoga to people with Disabilities in October of 1996. She has presented at the Accessible Yoga
Conferences in Santa Barbara, New York and San Francisco, and has offered many trainings across the US in teaching Yoga for People with Disabilities.

About the training:
Learning to teach yoga to someone with a disability, whether someone in a wheel chair or with an “invisible” disability, requires a teacher to adapt her idea of a yoga practice to the person who is in front of her. This workshop will not only prepare you to reach a wider range of students, but it will also offer you a different way of approaching your own practice and teaching.

• Explore the use of props to set up students in asanas.
• Discuss and work with the various effects and manifestations of disability.
• Learn the language of disability.
• Discuss contraindications and alternatives.
• Consider sequencing in classes for people with varying needs.
• Examine the need and responsibilities of teaching and assisting.

Pre-requisites: Two year continuous practice, plus completion of a basic teacher training program, or if a caregiver, a basic knowledge of yoga, that includes anatomy and kinesiology. Certification: Upon satisfactory completion of all course work you will receive a Certificate of Completion. CEU credits available
