The Federation of Ontario Yoga Teachers

FOYT stands for excellence in yoga teaching and practice in the Ontario yoga community.

This is our new mission statement. Welcome to a new year and a new era for FOYT. Your Board and I have created an ambitious plan to grow our organization, encourage continuing education in yoga and support the practice of safe yoga across Ontario.

This year we usher in a series of enhancements to our teacher certification process. These changes bring FOYT into alignment with the governing bodies of yoga in the United States and Great Britain. The changes are intended to streamline the certification process and make certification more accessible to aspiring teachers. We also want to differentiate between yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainers. Therefore we’ve adopted the Yoga Alliance standards and have two categories for certification: 200-hour and 500-hour.

Recognizing the stringency of the certification requirements in place, we have eliminated the extensive written exam, except in exceptional circumstances where the standards as stipulated are not met. This means a shorter timeline for certification.

The Yoga Association of Alberta

The Yoga Association of Alberta is a non-profit organization that offers yoga activities to the public for the purpose of providing self development opportunities. The Association provides co-ordination and support throughout the province through its own activities and in co-operation with groups practising all recognized yoga disciplines. Support is provided to members and local groups.

Yoga Atlantic is a community of heart-centered people, committed to educate and guide through spirit, mind and body.

As a central resource for yoga within Atlantic Canada, we foster the highest standards of professional practice and development within our supportive network of teachers.

Our members have provided us with proof of their minimum standard of training of 200 hours within an accredited yoga teacher training program, or have been duly reviewed for acceptance by delegates of our association.
