Additional information:
Douglas started practicing yoga in 2005 after suffering from a build-up of muscle damage caused by computer-related RSI, and then motor-cycle and snowboarding accidents. At first, yoga was a complimentary practice to therapies after a suggestion from his personal instructor. However, after developing a regular Ashtanga practice over 6-months and reducing visits to the Oesteopath and Sports Injury Specialists, he recognised the practice was rejuvenating the muscle on its own, with each injury "returning" briefly whilst certain postures within the posture stretched out the knotted muscle allowing the posture to re-align; from damaged calves, ankles, hips, neck, shoulders and back. The restrictions he felt, along with the poor posture they maintained, have now all but disappeared. Douglas now specialises in helping others find the right set of postures to practice in a sequence built to correct their areas of poor alignment and damaged muscles. In the UK, Douglas has studied under the guidance of Gingi Lee and Hamish Hendry - both highly respected in Ashtanga and trained by Pattabhi and Sharath Jois. Gingi was originally trained by the late Derek Ireland who is recognised as the "importer" of Ashtanga to Europe. Hamish is one of only a few teachers globally to be authorised to teach Ashtanga by the Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. Outside of the UK, Douglas trained under Deepak Sharma at Sampoorna Yoga gaining a Teacher Certification along with a grounding in verbal and hands-on adjustments.
